I am excited to announce that I will begin a new position as the Inaugural Director of Community Engagement in the Division of Diversity and Community Engagement at the University of Mississippi on 23 March, 2020. During the first year of my appointment, I will focus on hiring staff and establishing a community engagement unit with four interrelated components, including:
- Leadership and social change programs for students
- A comprehensive volunteer center
- A community-engaged learning and research institute supporting faculty, staff, and students, and
- A place-based partnership program in various communities across Mississippi
I will also work closely with faculty to explore how we might increase support for engaged scholarship and practice within the University’s educational mission. As a complement to this work, I am hopeful to teach in the Department of History and the Center for the Study of Southern Culture next spring.
I will hire 3 full time staff members in the first year as we build out a comprehensive community engagement center at the University, so if you or someone who might be interested in this work please be in touch.
As a Bonner Scholar alumnus from Rhodes College, it has been an honor and a privilege to build out a new Bonner Program at Colorado College. I am deeply grateful to my many friends, colleagues, and students at Colorado College, and I have very much enjoyed my journey in Colorado Springs. I will forever cherish the people I have had the pleasure of working with at CC – an institution that is among the finest liberal arts colleges in the nation.
